Some scenes in the book were alright and concentrated on the mythos and the plot but a lot of it was filler and crappy filler at that. Wait, I left out the most important part, they each have a magical power. I liked this one enough to make me read the others, but I didn't like Vanessa so much.

Moon, Volume 1 by Lynne Ewing[/url] “And they can never harm a person who does a genuine act of kindness toward them. I bough this book two years ago but i didn't want to read it. And i didn't really liked the pattern te books follow: All is well when one strange thing happens, things start to mess up, then the main girl gets ready for battle and the main fight comes about with some twist, and in the end she meets with the guy they're intrested in.

It actually was entertaining, and reminded me of L J Smith's books, but I was in the mood for something very different. I loved how the author brings friendship and trust as the most important thing. I don't picture a powerful woman slathering on the makeup and hair gel and glittery body paint and four inch high heels (very impractical for fighting in if you ask me). As they become friends, their incredible powers bind them together as The Daughters of the Moon.

What I love the most however, is the nods to classical mythology and how they end up playing out in each story. Most of this reveiw looks like a story explaining how I could of tricked you into reading a terrible book but then explaining this book ISN'T terrible. There was excessive purple prose, it was unpoetically written, and there were constant descriptions of the clothes every single character was wearing.

Maybe this is what 15 year old girls think and/or how they act, but it doesn't seem right in the context of the novel. The characters and their motives were all believable, the dialogue was realistic, and I absolutely loved the incorporation of the ancient goddesses in the novels. Reading them now in comparison to reading them a decade ago is a completely different experience, but there's just something about these books that are so much fun.

Sadly, this is one of those story lines where I'm interested enough in the concept to want to see how it plays out but not terribly interested in the characters or the actual novels. I liked this one enough to make me read the others, but I didn't like Vanessa so much. The writing, on the other hand, wasn't exactly the best out there in YA today, but I have a feeling that perhaps it was because the target age was aiming for kids even younger than myself when I was a teen (9-14 y/o). In Book Three, ex-gang member Jimena is terrified by the reappearance of Veto, who was once the love of her life.
